Valerie Geller


Valerie Geller is president of Geller Media International, a broadcast consulting firm working with news, talk, information and personality programming for radio and television throughout the world.  Since 1991, she has worked with more than 500 stations in 31 countries to develop and grow audiences. 

She is the author of three books about radio: Creating Powerful Radio: A Communicator's Handbook for News, Talk, Information & Personality and The Powerful Radio Workbook: The Prep, Performance & Post Production Planning.  A third book, the revised and updated edition of Creating Powerful Radio: Getting, Keeping & Growing Audiences is available now

With more than 30 years of experience, Geller works with commercial and public broadcasting in the USA, Europe and throughout the world.

A much in demand keynote conference speaker, and seminar leader, in the United States, Geller leads Creating Powerful Radio workshops, works one-on-one coaching on air presenters, DJs, news reporters, writers, anchors and producers, talk show hosts, programmers and managers and consults national, regional and local radio.   Geller is the recipient of the Conclave's prestigious 2010 Rockwell Award for LIfetime Achievement in Radio and for the past several years has been named by Radio Ink magazine as one of America's "Most Influential Women in Radio."

She has also guest lectured at several universities throughout the world including Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism and New York University in New York City.

In Europe, she has keynoted conferences, or presented workshops for the Swedish Radio Academy, the British Radio Academy, (RCS) Radio Conference of Poland, Norway's Radio Days, Danmark's Radio Days, The (EBU) European Broadcasters Union, The EGTA, The Median Forum in Cologne, The European NAB (Prague, Paris, Athens), at various universities and the International Radio Symposium in Montreux and more. 

Film Projects include: ROTUNDA - 21 STORIES - (consulted on interviewing and storytelling for filmmakers Nic and Becky Gaunt's  award winning documentary (2008) film "ROTUNDA - 21 Stories" by Nic Gaunt - which recorded the personal life of Birmingham, England’s most iconic building, unveiling the many powerful human stories that have influenced and shaped its existence.

Geller Media International also hosted the International Producer's Workshops for ten years in New York City.  Valerie Geller also serves as consultant to Powerful Radio Productions, Inc. an independent production company based in New York.
 
 

Valerie Geller understands radio programming.  Her 30 year background in broadcasting includes all radio formats from public radio to Adult Contemporary, Top 40 CHR, to Country and News/Talk.  

MORE BACKGROUND:

In the 1980s, Ms. Geller ran the news department at KIOI/San Francisco, presented talk radio programs from Tampa Bay to Los Angeles and setup successful news/talk formats at a number of major stations.

In 1988 Ms. Geller helped launch the talk format at KFI/Los Angeles. In 1990 she programmed one of America's premier news/talk stations, WABC in New York. She began her career as a radio journalist, a field in which she has won several awards. During her early career Valerie Geller worked as a talk show host, anchor and reporter for various stations including KOA/Denver, KTAR/Phoenix, KOST and KRTH/Los Angeles, as well as three national American radio networks.

She held an elected seat as a member of the Associated Press Broadcasters board of directors and held an elected board seat for the Radio Television News Directors Association in California. Ms. Geller has also written about radio for several broadcast and academic publications including Billboard Magazine, Radio & Records, The M Street Journal, Radio Ink Magazine,  Music & Media, RBR (Radio Business Report) & TVBR's "Smart Media."

Based in New York City, Geller Media International provides a full range of consulting services for broadcast media, with emphasis on news/talk, information and personality programming.
